Solange, Tina Knowles-Lawson and Kelly Rowland Host Benefit for Louisiana Flood Victims

Solange Knowles, Kelly Rowland, and Tina Knowles-Lawson were among those hosting a special benefit dinner for victims of the Louisiana Flood of 2016 during a Sunday (Nov. 20) event in Baton Rouge. Essence Magazine president Michelle Ebanks and Essence editor-in-chief Vanessa K. Deluca were also on hand to help host the evening.

The event, officially titled “Love on Louisiana: An Essence Hometown Heroes Tribute,” came as a result of the Knowles’ families ties to the state and Essence magazine’s continued hosting of its Essence Fest in New Orleans.

The holiday dinner honored standout students and teachers affected by the Louisiana flood of 2016, according to a release. The flood killed 13 people, affected more than 100,000 homes and caused millions of dollars worth of damage over several days in August.

“Love on Louisiana” was also supported by Beyonce Knowles and her philanthropic initiative, BeyGOOD, in addition to Habitat for Humanity and Brand Jordan.

Officials and hosts also hope the Sunday dinner, which was held at the recently renamed Raising Cane’s River Center, will serve as a catalyst to help raise $1 million for relief efforts.
